AS students across Greater Manchester receive GCSE results this week, many will be wondering how to use their grades as a springboard to a future career in their chosen profession. And that’s where The Manchester College comes in.

This award-winning college, rated No.1 for achievement in Greater Manchester*, knows learners need courses that work for them by arming them with the kinds of skills employers across a vast range of industries are looking for.

That’s why it has launched its unique Industry Excellence Academy (IEA). It aims to equip young people with those skills while also offering unrivalled access to business-standard learning through courses developed in collaboration with industry partners.

The college offers an IEA in 10 curriculum areas, including Hospitality & Catering Academy in partnership with the Chefs’ Forum. Students with unparalleled contact with some of the UK’s most inspirational culinary experts.

To date, students have worked with more than 70 industry professionals, including TV chef James Martin and MasterChef winner Simon Wood.

Young learners attending The Manchester College’s Academy programme will benefit from its established industry links with more than 1,000 leading organisations and businesses.

They’ll study for a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification, learning vital industry skills at the same time as completing a meaningful work placement of at least 15 days with an employer based in the sector they wish to enter.

As well as their industry placement, students on an employer-sponsored programme will have access to a wide range of industry-level learning, including sessions delivered by experts and visits from sector-leading guest speakers.

In addition to the Academy, The Manchester College has launched Centres of Excellence (CoE) in every curriculum area, from Animal Care to Science. Students will be able to work towards a range of qualifications at a CoE, from Entry Level and Level 3 certificates through to Extended Diplomas. Work experience is also included. Students can then progress into an IEA if they meet the entry requirements.
