Fury as pile of rubbish is dumped near woods

THIS is the huge pile of rubbish that was dumped on a secluded road near a pub.

Video footage taken near the Nelson Tavern on Rose Hey Lane, Failsworth, last week shows a large mound of rubbish discarded on a road near a woodland area.

The waste includes an old sofa, a bed frame, a mattress and dozens of bin bags of household and garden waste.

Now, the cabinet member for neighbourhoods and culture at Oldham council has blasted the fly-tipper who dumped the waste.

Coun Barbara Brownridge said the council takes fly-tipping ‘very seriously.’

She said the mess is being cleaned up and the local authority is now looking to take enforcement action against the culprit.

She added: “We take fly-tipping very seriously in Oldham and we do our absolute best to ensure the people who commit this offence are prosecuted, including those who have allowed ‘a man with a van’ to dispose of their waste without any questions being asked.

“Sadly the video we have seen in Failsworth is another example of how fly-tipping has a negative impact on our community and this must end.

“While the majority of our residents dispose of their waste correctly, including the use of their nearest household waste and recycling centre, there is a minority who still think it is okay to dump their rubbish and leave others to clean up after them.

“They are mistaken and we have already issued a number of fixed penalty notices for Duty of Care offences.

“We have acted to clean up this mess in Failsworth and we are now progressing to take enforcement action against this fly-tipper with the evidence we have recovered.”
