Yobs break into building before ‘throwing abuse’ at family

-

A GANG of youths were seen ‘breaking into’ a former pupil referral unit before ‘throwing abuse’ at a couple and their one-year-old child.

A group of three young men were seen scaling the fences of The Pupil Learning Centre building in Summerseat Lane in Bury on Monday afternoon. The building, New Summerseat House, has been empty for some time after The Pupil Learning Centre relocated, according to Bury Council which owns the premises.

Daniel Peace, 29, and his wife were walking with their one-year-old son in a pram when they saw the youths. Mr Peace said: “We could see these young lads and, after standing and watching, we realised they were scaling the fences and breaking the windows to get in.”

The youths appeared to be around 14 to 15 years old, says Mr Peace.

As Mr Peace reported the group to the police, another young man, believed to be part of the gang, rode up to the young family on his bike and levelled abuse at them as their son cried in his pram. Mr Peace said: “He started calling me a ‘f***ing snitch’ and a ‘grass’ for calling the police. He started following us home.”

The youth lost interest and the family managed to walk home safely, says Mr Peace.

Mr Peace added: “More than anything, we are all supposed to be on lockdown and we have got young kids who are out of school disregarding what we are being told will save lives.”

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “At around 3.30pm on Monday, 30 March, police were called to reports of a burglary at a premises on Summerseat Lane, Bury. Officers attended.”
