CAPITAL PAIN IN JORGI SWITCH

-

THE delay in City announcing the signing of Jorginho has led to speculation in Italy that Chelsea could yet hijack the deal.

The Blues have been involved in negotiations over the summer for the Napoli midfielder. It has taken time for an agreed fee to be reached the two clubs, who were at one point £20m apart on their valuation of the player.

After weeks of little happening, it seemed as though there was significant progress in the deal over the past week and there is expectation that City will complete the signing.

However, the fact that the deal is still not official has raised the prospect that Chelsea could yet play a critical part in any transfer.

Former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri is thought to be the favourite for the Chelsea job.

Corriere Dello Sport believe that Jorginho must be a discussion point between Sarri, Chelsea, and Napoli for the midfielder not to have been confirmed as a City player by now.

Meanwhile, Nabil Fekir will stay at Lyon after seeing his ‘dream’ move to Liverpool fall through, according to the club’s president, Jean-Michel Aulas.

United have been linked with an audacious £53m bid for the France international after their bitter rivals pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute earlier this summer.

Aulas even teased that he had held ‘long discussions’ with Jose Mourinho but there has been no indication that United have any plans to sign the 24-year-old.

Much of the speculation stems from the fact that Nekir referred to United as his ‘dream’ club back in 2015, and Mourinho has repeatedly insisted he will not sign any forwards this summer following the mid-season addition of former Gunner Alexis Sanchez.
