RETRO burger bar Archie’s is to expand with a new site at Piccadilly – while bosses of the Manchester business have confirmed plans for expansion into the US with boxing star Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Boxer Floyd caused a stir on his latest visit to the diner on Oxford Road last month, with fans clamouring for photos with the American star as he ordered a burger and shake at the venue.

And shortly afterwards he confirmed on his Instagram page that he will be taking the brand Stateside in the near future.

He said: “Back At My #1 Burger Spot In The U.K @ lovearchies... We Will Be Expanding And Taking It Back To The States In Las Vegas And Miami.. Make Sure You Be On The Look Out.”

Meanwhile, owner Imran Rafiq has confirmed that they are pursuing a new site on home turf here in Manchester – on Piccadilly Station approach.

They are working on one of the empty units as part of the ongoing redevelopment of the parade which sees thousands of commuters walking up to and out of the main railway station entrance every day.

Imran says: “We’re opening two more sites in Manchester this year, including one at Manchester Piccadilly approach.

“And it’s great to have Floyd on board. He first came to us last year with one of his team members and I invited him in for some food. He fell in love with the place and he said we must do something.

“He fell in love with the whole feel of the place and said he needs to take it to Vegas.

“He’s just finishing a lapdancing bar, and then he will move onto this.”

Archie’s has become known for its fresh-cooked grill burgers ranging from £5 to £6.99, and its milkshakes range made in-store.

They also recently launched their chicken Cheetos burger – complete with Cheetos snacks on top of a chicken burger.
