High-ranking schools rival country’s best

RESULTS BETTER THAN NATIONAL AVERAGE WHILE A* GRADES INCREASED BY A WHOPPING 14.5 PER CENT AS DEDICATED STUDENTS REAP REWARDS

TRAFFORD schools have a reputation as some of the best in the country and once again students’ A level results were top notch.

Not only were Trafford’s results higher than the national pass rate, the number of A* grades awarded increased by 14.5 per cent.

And 99.8pc of pupils achieved at least 2 A*-E grades and 97pc of candidates achieved 3 A*-E grades.

Trafford’s executive member for children’s services, Coun Michael Hyman congratula­ted students on their achievemen­ts.

He said: “I want to offer my personal congratula­tions to all students for their hard work and dedication achieving these results.

Celebratio­ns were in full swing at Altrincham Grammar School for Girls, with 58 students achieving A* or A in all their subjects.

An impressive 21 of their pupils managed to secure places at Oxford or Cambridge.

Stephanie Gill, principal of the school, said: “Once again these results demonstrat­e the hard work and determinat­ion of our students and the wonderful support they receive from our staff.”

Students at Loreto Grammar smashed school A level records with 76pc of all grades at A* to B - up from 74pc last year.

Elsewhere Ashton on Mersey School achieved their best ever A level and AS level results.

A record percentage of students secured the upper A-C grades and 42pc of students achieved A-B grades.

Staff at the sixth form were full of praise for their BTech leavers with 43c achieving the highest possible D* D* D* grades in vocational qualificat­ions.

A spokesman for the sixth form, part of the Dean Trust, said: “The performanc­e of the Year 13 cohort will once again ensure all leavers are able to access their chosen universiti­es this year. Many congratula­tions to all our students and staff in securing these outstandin­g results.”

Over at Wellacre Academy teachers celebrated notable successes in Sport, Business and Photograph­y while staff and students at Wellington School in Timperley scooped a solid set of A level results.

Identical twins Dominic and Jamie Butler don’t just look alike, they think alike.

The brilliant St. Ambrose College A level students, who were the Hale Barns’ Catholic grammar school’s first ever joint head boys, were both seeing stars after downloadin­g their results, with barely a whisker between them.

The Bowdon boys were leading the way with Jamie getting four A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics an A in Biology and a Merit in the Maths Extension paper, while brother Thomas got three A* in Maths, Further Maths and Biology with A grades in Chemistry and Physics and a Merit in the Maths extension.

“We both did well and who ever wins is no consequenc­e,” Jamie said.

“We compete against the rest of the world but never against each other. We are both delighted and very proud of each other’s achievemen­ts and have always benefited from working together with each other.”

Both boys want to study Medicine in Ireland and are currently choosing between Queen’s Belfast and The University College of Ireland in Galway.

Both were first team rugby players and both set up St. Ambrose’s hugely successful interfaith conference attracting speakers from across the area to address Sixth Form students.

St Ambrose College academics celebrated another set of impressive A level results.

Nearly 69pc of all grades were at A* to B, with a 100pc pass rate.

St. Ambrose College Principal James Keulemans said: “Jamie and Dominic have made an amazing contributi­on to school life and are hard working, naturally talented and immensely likable and conscienti­ous young men. We know they will become fine doctors.”
