COULD YOUR SNAP TELL STORY OF AMAZING DAY?
Annual event’s photography competition returns with prizes up for grabs for best images
MANCHESTER Day revellers are being urged to capture the event’s most memorable moments for this year’s photography competition.
The annual contest returns with some top prizes available for the snaps that best exhibit the essence of this Sunday’s extravaganza.
The winning images will need to capture the size, vibrancy, colour and movement of the parade against the backdrop of the city and the huge crowds lining its streets.
This year’s entrants will be in with a chance of wining a new generation Apple iPad Air 2, a night’s stay at Manchester’s exclusive luxury Hotel Gotham, or £100 in gift vouchers to use across the city centre.
Coun Pat Karney, chairman of Manchester Day, said: “There’s so much going on during Manchester Day that I can’t quite squeeze everything in but the marvellous picture entries – showing the parade through the eyes of the crowd – perfectly capture the spirit of the day in all its glory.”
The prize winners’ pictures and a selection of the best of the rest will be showcased on the Manchester Day website after the event, which returns for the sixth time this year.
To get involved all you have to do is upload your photos to www.manches-terday.co.uk/competi-tion, or email your sub- missions to manchester. day@manchester.gov.uk.
This year’s Manchester Day’s theme – Game On! – is set to celebrate the games that have helped shape the city.
More than 2,500 participants are expected to take part in the event’s parade, which starts at 1pm on Liverpool Road.
As well as an amazing parade through the heart of the city, Manchester’s city centre squares will also feature a dazzling array of performances, decorations and mouthwatering food and drink throughout the day.
Coun Rosa Battle, Manchester council’s executive member for culture and leisure, said: “There are some fantastic prizes up for grabs – everyone entering is in with a chance of winning – the best picture could be taken with anything from a smartphone, selfie-stick or top-of-the-range camera.
“Everyone sees the parade differently – its great to see shots capturing the day from different perspectives.”
