Doggie owners’ charity work is in the wag

-

DOG-WALKERS are being encouraged to walk 9K with their K9s as part of a charity ‘Wagathon.’

The Rossendale Trust has launched the initiative to raise money for the services they provide to adults with learning and physical disabilities in Macclesfield and Buxton.

Throughout the month of August, the non-profit organisation is inviting dog owners to complete 9km of walking with their furry friends and with the whole month to complete the challenge walkers can do as little or as much as they want each day.

PR and fundraising officer for The Rossendale Trust, Susanne Tidswell said the initiative is part of an annual campaign run by ‘Give as you Live.’

“We just thought it was a really great idea,” she said.

“There’s lots of dogs these days, post-Covid and people love getting out and we live in a great area so it’s a great chance to raise a bit of money for us as well.

“They can either do it in one go or over a course of days - however they wish. If the weather’s too hot for the dogs they can take their time.”

Susanne added that the money raised will go towards day trips and equipment for activities for the adults the trust works with.

She said: “We support adults with learning disabilities living in Macclesfield and in Buxton and the money goes towards giving them the opportunity to live the lives they want to.

“It will go towards trips out or holidays or any day activities they want to do or to buy equipment for our day centre so that they can do arts and crafts or cookery groups.

“It’s used for all manner of things, those extras that go above their normal things that allow them to do things you and I take for granted on a daily basis.”
