Hard fought derby clash at Prestbury

- BILL LIVESLEY

Prestbury skipper George Brindley won the toss and asked the visitors to bat and opening bowler Will Worswick struck in his first over, bowling Danny Brown for 2.

McInnes and Capper steadied the ship after the early loss by taking the score to 51 but Nick Taylor had McInnes caught by Brindley using all his body to take the catch.

With the score at 61 Capper was out, again Taylor the bowler and Mutha Karuppan, the Prestbury wicket keeper, stumping the Kerridge man for 22.

The next wicket to fall was L Wild for 15, caught off the bowling of Tom Nelson.

With the score at 94 the fifth wicket fell as Birchenough was caught by Max Cowling Jones, the bowler Nelson again.

Prestbury kept taking wickets, Carpenter for 6 bowled by Ridley Partridge, Banks bowled by Sumon Ahmed – as was Grayson.

At the other end, Knight was hitting some glorious strokes and soon had his 50.

He fell to Ahmed for 78 and Worswick took the last wicket, bowling Wild for 1.

The Prestbury bowlers were Worswick 1 for 32, Partridge 1 for 39, Taylor 2 for 24,

Nelson 2 for 27 and Sumon 3 for 23.

The Kerridge innings was completed in the 34th over, all out for 168.

Prestbury openers got off to a slow start.

With tight bowling the runs were difficult to come by and in the 11th over

Scott was bowled for 12.

With the score at 48 Gabor Simon was out for 11 LBW and new batsman Worswick didn’t bother the scorer out for 0.

The Prestbury innings fell apart in the middle order as three wickets fell for two runs, Brindley also out without scoring and Karuppan falling for 25. The score was 55 for 5 and it was soon 69 for 6 as Ahmed was out having scored eight runs.

Overs were running out as the Kerridge bowlers kept the pressure on the Prestbury batsman. When Finlay Calder was out for 12 the target of 83 off 9 overs was a tough ask so Cowling Jones and Nelson went for losing points and saw out the 45 overs with Nelson not out 7 and a solid innings by Cowling Jones 43 not out.

Well done to both sides for a keen game of cricket.

Prestbury’s seconds were away at Haslington.

Prestbury skipper Adal won the toss and put Haslington into bat and Abbi Lamidey soon had her first second eleven wicket.

Haslington were all out in the 27th over for 126, and wickets spread as follows, Lamidey 1 for 23, Bobby Reid 2 for 19, Juan-Pierre Roets 3 for 26 and Yassin Khan 6 overs 4 for 10, three catches by Shake Shimul.

Prestbury got off to a good start in their reply with Santi Houghton 32 and Shimul 11 putting on 45 but wickets fell at regular intervals and at 105 for 7 but the batting failed to reach the winning total and fell to 113 all out.

The seconds remain third in the table.
