Soccer club applies for drink and music licence
BOSSES at Macclesfield FC have asked to have the stadium licensed for serving alcohol and playing music - both recorded and live - until 11pm.
A Cheshire East Council committee will rule on the application for the Leasing.com Stadium, which has received a resident objection, at a meeting on Friday, October 8.
The ground was previously licensed when it belonged to the now defunct Macclesfield Town but this permission has expired.
Bar 27, which is inside the ground, already has a premises licence and this is unconnected to Friday’s decision.
Police have raised no objection but a resident on Moss Lane has spoken out against the bid, citing recent trouble when the
Silkmen played neighbouring Congleton Town and fearing this would be repeated.
Although this is the only complaint received the resident says it has been on behalf of ‘ numerous’ others who do not have the means to object.
The objection said: “The football club is situated next to an old people’s home, whose residents seek a peaceful retirement.
“It sets to attract external revenue from a wider audience that have no interest in the community of the area. Subsequently, this asset would be used as the previous bar at the football ground as a meeting place.
“Consequently, the fighting and aggression that was experienced from the past would likely spill over into our local community again.”
The club reacted strongly to fan trouble against Congleton Town, pledging to ban those responsible.
According to the meeting agenda the application seeks permission for alcohol and music seven days a week from 10am to 11pm
Alcohol would be consumed on the premises, live music would be inside and outside, while recorded music limited to inside.
