Popular butcher dies at the age of 73

TOUCHING tributes have been paid to a popular Macclesfie­ld butcher who has died.

The family of Marshall Spearing announced that the 73-year-old had died peacefully in hospital on Friday, September 24.

Marshall was the owner of Spearing’s Family Butcher, on Park Lane, and was much-loved by his customers, who have left hundreds of tributes to him.

His family have also said how the butcher will be ‘missed greatly’.

In a statement they said he was a ‘beloved and loving’ husband to Jean, father to Rachael, Sarah and Emma, father-in-Law to Billy, Paul, and Andrew, grandfathe­r of Tommy, Artie, Heidi and George and brother of Susan and the late Judith.

They said: “Marshall Spearing was the proprietor of Spearing’s Family Butcher of Park Green and will be missed greatly not only by his loving Family but by his many loyal and highly valued customers.”

His funeral service will take place at Holy Trinity Parish Church, Rainow, on Saturday, October 16, at midday, followed by Interment in the churchyard. The Funeral cortege will pass by the shop at 11.30am for people to pay their respects.

Following a post on social media to announce Marshall’s passing many left tributes to him.

One customer said: “Without doubt the most lovely man and fabulous butcher.

“I will miss his warm and friendly wave when I walked past the shop early in the morning.”

Another said: “I remember going in to see Marshall for the first time when I was a little girl with my Nan and he was a young man then.

“She bought me my first pie which we shared. I was hooked. Been going ever since.

A former employee said: “Marshall was a legend in Macclesfie­ld, I will never forget him believing in me and giving me my first opportunit­y of a job when I was 15. I had many a laugh and yummy pork pie in his presence.”

Family flowers only at the funeral but donations can be made to Anthony Nolan, the British Heart Foundation or the Christie NHS Foundation Trust.
