-

A HEROIC passer-by rescued an injured driver from a burning car that had crashed into a tree and burst into flames.

The accident had happened at Brookledge Lane, Adlington, in the early hours of Wednesday, September 8, and shut the road.

Firefighters from Poynton and Bollington stations were called but before they arrived at the scene shortly after 1.15am a member of the public had helped pull the casualty out of the saloon car.

The 29-year-old man from Widnes was treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Crews used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “On arrival the crews found a saloon car had collided with a tree and was well alight.

“One casualty had already been released from the vehicle by a member of the public. Crews were detained at the scene for around one hour and 15 minutes.

Police describe the incident as a ‘serious collision’ and have appealed for witnesses.
