It’s party time as nurses get lippy
LUSCIOUS lips are helping keep spirits up at Macclesfield Hospital as staff there continue fighting on the front line of the Covid pandemic.
Nurses and other workers are taking part in #partylipfriday in a bid to keep smiling through highly pressurised times.
The idea was thought up by Lucie Orme, a ward based pharmacy technician at the hospital.
She decided that on Fridays she would wear a shade of lipstick to work that normally she would reserve for a night out and others have followed suit.
Although the brightly coloured mouths are then largely concealed under a face mask it still makes staff feel happier in their work knowing they have a ‘party lip’.
The results have been turned into an Instagram video featuring Lucie and her colleagues and her hashtag has around the NHS.
She said: “It’s just something that’s started naturally, when I was getting ready for work and saw my bright lipsticks I thought it would make me feel better to wear one.
“Then I told a couple of
spread colleagues about it and they joined in. The following week I was helping a colleague who was having a challenging day and I showed her my lips and it really made her smile.
“That’s when I thought, I’ve really made someone smile today through such a simple thing.
“I sent a message to NHS millions on Instagram to ask them to repost my page and hashtag #partylipfriday to see if anyone else would like to join in and lots of people have started to follow suit.”
It has been an especially tough year for NHS workers with many wondering how they have managed to keep going.
Lucie’s video gives an answer to that by saying, ‘we cope by being there for each other. Let’s keep trying to brighten each other’s day’.
She added: “I continue to share pictures on my account to put a smile on people’s faces and show that there is a smile behind the mask, even if you can’t see it.
“It’s really hard to tell if someone is having a nice day so I hope this will help spread some happiness for all key workers! It’s nice that people are joining it with it.”
A spokesperson for East Cheshire NHS Trust said: “Despite the challenging circumstances it’s fantastic to see our staff coming up with ways to boost their wellbeing and put a smile on each other’s faces.”
