A-Level successes and pictures
TYTHERINGTON headteacher Manny Botwe sent an emotional tribute to exam pupils after they received their A-Level results.
He said: “Well done to the class of 2020.
“This is one of the most difficult press releases I have had to write as a headteacher.
“I know that this has been a very anxious time for many students and their families as the nation has had to come to terms with the effects of a global pandemic.
“We are all very sorry that the special class of
2020 have been denied the opportunity to sit their final examinations.
“Despite this, we still feel that it is important to recognise the achievements of the young people.
“We will not be releasing headline measures this year although what I will say is that we are celebrating a good set of results.
“We are particularly proud of the progress students have made in relation to their starting points and the results confirm Ofsted’s judgement of our Sixth Form as very strong.”
He said a number of students achieved three or more A*/A/Distinction grades:
Jakob Comber who achieved A*, A*, A*
Harriet Terrington who achieved A*, A, A, A
Ellen Marchetti who achieved A*, A*, A*
Rachel Cox who achieved A*, A*, A

Connie Tobin who achieved A, A, A
Libby Ferris who achieved Dist*, Dist* Dist
A number of students also achieved two A*/A/ Distinction grades: Casey Holiday, Mia Nemesis, Rebecca Purves, Joanna Stephen, Brandon Roberts and Sam Rainford.
Katie Hill and Victoria Wilson achieved the highest valued added scores in the Sixth Form.
Katie has secured a place to read Spanish, Portuguese and Latin
American Studies at the University of Manchester and Victoria is reading History and English at the University of Birmingham.
Several students have encountered the challenge of applying for apprenticeships during the lockdown.
Holly Brockbank was prepped and ready for her first interview, which was scheduled for the day when it was announced that schools were to close.
She was successful in her rescheduled virtual interview process and has now declined an offer to read Physics with Theoretical Physics at the University of Manchester after securing a competitive degree apprenticeship in Finance and Commercial Accountancy with Siemens.
Rob Rowson and George Scott have also secured degree apprenticeship positions during the pandemic with AstraZeneca.
Mr Botwe said: “I could have selected many more students but unfortunately we cannot get through everybody.
“Well done to you all. We are incredibly proud of the achievements of all our students at Sixth Form.
“This has been a very turbulent period and it has been great to see so many students collect their results.
“Whilst we are delighted that so many students have achieved well this year, what matters to us most is that the youngsters leave here as A* people with a real desire to make a positive difference to the world, particularly during these extraordinary times.
“We have a very proud comprehensive tradition at our Sixth Form and I’m pleased that we have the full range of students moving on to top universities, apprenticeships and the world of work.
“The hard work of our students combined with the passion of our staff has really paid off for so many youngsters.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our young people across the Macclesfield schools on their deserved success.
“We wish you all the very
best for the future.”
These results were received before Monday’s government statement on grade revisions. Some students may receive higher grades.
