Family print firm upgrades for future

- ALEX SCAPENS

AFAMILY printing business that has been going to press for nearly 150 years is investing in technology for the future.

Galloway Printers, which is based on First Avenue, Poynton, was established in 1870 and is now owned by the fifth generation of the family.

It currently carries out around 500 individual print jobs a month and has recently invested significant money into Heidelberg digital and litho printing machines.

The firm was originally based on Charlotte Street, in Manchester city centre, before moving to Salford and then Stockport.

In 1989 it came to Poynton, where it has been located ever since.

The managing director of the firm, Andy Galloway, welcomed Macclesfield MP David Rutley to the business for a visit and gave him a tour of the site.

Andy said: “It was a real privilege to welcome our local MP to our premises.

“As an almost 150-year established business, Galloways has deep ties to the local area and we are very much part of the community.

“The visit was timely as we have just made a large investment in our new machines, and it was great to be able to demonstrate how even in our digital age, print continues to make a significant impact on the economy.”

Mr Rutley added: “Galloways has been at the heart of print technology in our area for many years, and it is great to see this longstanding family firm continuing to expand the services it offers and remaining at the cutting-edge of print development.

“I was pleased to visit Galloways premises and see its efficient operations for myself and wish all the company every success as they continue to take the business forward.”
