here. They’re a club in the Football League and it’s a great opportunity for me. Macclesfield approached Ebbsfleet for me last summer but it was knocked back, so there has been interest for a long time.

“I’ve obviously since left there, and then I got a call last week and it’s all happened very quickly. I’ve played here and managed against Macclesfield here and it’s a great club. There’s a really nice environment and atmosphere around the place.

“They have some great young players which is attractive for a manager to want to work with them. First and foremost it’s about improving those players and helping them reach their full potential. I enjoy coaching and I love being on the training ground.”

McMahon joins a Macclesfield side that have started the season well, having won two of their opening three league matches. Those results had left them in fourth place in the table, and they were then set to welcome Morecambe to the Moss Rose at the Express went to print on Tuesday.

McMahon is pleased with what the players have done so far this season, but admits they still have a lot of work to do throughout the rest of the campaign.

“The lads have started the season brilliantly with their energy and youthfulness, but it’s only three games gone and there is a long way to go,” he said. “It’s a good start, so now we need to build on that as we’ve got a good platform to kick on from over the next few weeks and months.”

Macclesfield’s next game takes place on Saturday when they’re once again at home, as they go up against Scunthorpe United at the Moss Rose.
