Winding up order set for September

-

MACCLESFIELD Town are set to go back before the High Court to face another winding-up order on September 11.

It follows a hearing on Wednesday, August 14, where a petition by a group of players who had appeared for the Silkmen was dismissed, according to club officials.

The case involved the non-payment of Shamir Mullings, Elliott Durrell, Rhys Taylor, Jamie Grimes, Ryan Lloyd and Keith Lowe.

Now the club claims the petition has been dismissed and has been taken over by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

The club say ‘the matter will be resolved’ by the next hearing date of September 11 and have released a statement strongly criticising the players.

It said: “Due to the nature of this it was difficult to communicate with fans about it for legal reasons, but now that it has finally been thrown out we would like to state the following.

“We fully and unconditionally accept that the club were initially at fault, in that salaries clearly should be paid in full and on the day that they were owed. This is exactly the same for every member of staff - no matter what role they carry out at the club and something which we are committed to making sure happens each and every month going forward.

“There were times last season when even with the best intentions, this simply was not possible due to a variety of factors – but this was our fault and we take full accountability for it.

“Despite the fact that we experienced many challenges at the end of the last campaign, we always strived to do our best - both for all our staff and also for the club as a whole. In this regard, it was disappointing that the aforementioned players did not progress their concerns through the normal channels (eg the PFA) and instead decided to try and close down our 145-year-old club through the courts.

“We would like to think that the players in question did not fully appreciate the severity of their actions, as there is no doubt that the repercussions from it could well have been devastating for everybody who loves Macclesfield Town Football Club.

“By taking this course of action, payment was actually delayed further and created a situation which was detrimental to both parties.

“We are clearly delighted that this has now been satisfied.”

For their part the players released a statement last month saying they had ‘exhausted all other options’ and felt like they were ‘left with no alternative’.
