A beauty in a new dress who was named Queen

-

IN this Nostalgia feature we take a look back at the Macclesfield Silk Queen contest of 1977.

Carole Green, who was 19 at the time, won the prestigious title in February of that year, wearing a dress bought for her by mum Anne.

Anne has sent us these pictures of her daughter. She said: “One of her best friends, Alison, encouraged her, and I said ‘why not, what’s the harm?’”

After Carole, who lived on Black Road with her parents, was named Silk Queen, she took part in a coronation ceremony at Macclesfield Town Hall, and was part of a procession, sitting on a float covered with a Union Jack flag made by her dad Alan, and decorated with roses.

Carole then took part in events in the area.

Anne said: “With it being the Jubilee year there was lots going on and Carole took part in all kinds of things.

“She opened the extension at Macclesfield Golf Club.”

Carole passed away at the age of 53, and Anne remembers her as ‘a lovely caring person, close to family and friends’.”

Carole spent nine years living in St Ives, before coming back home to train at Stockport College, and becoming area care manager for care homes in the area.

Anne said: “She had a very, very good life.”

Carole left mum Anne and dad Alan, as well as a brother, Paul.
