Silkmen star hails arrival of Watson

-

MACCLESFIELD Town midfielder Danny Rowe says the arrival of assistant manager Steve Watson has been a massive boost to the side.

Watson joined the Silkmen on a permanent basis over the summer after spending a bit of time with the club during the closing stages of last season.

Rowe has been happy to work with Watson, and feels that a new level of intensity has been incorporated to training.

“Steve’s come in and he’s added to the standard of training,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s all coming together well, hopefully if we push on how we’re training now, we should do well in the season. As you could tell from pre-season we were looking sharp and looking organised.”

Rowe now hopes he and the team can build on Saturday’s 2-0 win against Torquay.

“You’ve always got to aim higher than your last season. I found last year it was later on in the season that I was hitting the form I know I should be hitting,” he said.

“Hopefully I can kick on from the start this season. I’m focusing on scoring a lot more now, and if I’m not scoring then I want to be getting assists, so that’s what I’m working on.”

Despite scoring in the final friendly against Stockport County, Rowe had a slightly frustrating pre-season after suffering a few injuries, but he is confident that he’s now up to speed.

“I would’ve liked to have stayed injury free. I didn’t complete a full game in pre-season which was a bit of a setback, but I felt good in the last game and hopefully I’m not too far off now,” he said.
