ROYAL BRITISH LEGION TRIBUTE.

Soon after Ted joined the local RBL, the existing branch welfare officer retired and Ted took on the position at the request of the then chairman, Dennis Callan.

Over the years Ted extended his voluntary involvement with RBL welfare, serving with the RBL County Welfare Committee and as a Regional Case Worker. He was also instrumental in recruiting and training case workers until 2016

Ted says he found his Branch position, later known as Community Support Officer, “most satisfying” and he made many friends, especially the late Dennis Callan.

The support and co-operation of many in local government and other organisations, especially officers and members of Rushcliffe Borough Council and Gotham Parish Council, made the local work of the RBL much easier.

In 2016 Ted reduced his work in branch welfare support activities until his retirement at the end of 2020.

During his 22 years’ service Ted was Branch vice chairman, then Branch Chairman until 2016.

Ted wishes to thank all Branch Committee members past and present. He is grateful for the years of support, especially from his dear wife Moira and also from Pam Riley from Gotham and Barbara Mills from East Leake.

Both Ted and Moira intend to remain RBL members and “strong supporters” of the military charity.

Ted has found being able to help so many families and individuals for whom the RBL has a responsibility under the Royal Charter “extremely rewarding”.

Ted’s wish is that younger members of the community will come forward in future to maintain the much-needed services that the organisation is currently on offer ex-service personnel and their families.

In recognition for his tireless work for the RBL and the village, Gotham Parish Council wished to present Ted with an award.

Covid restrictions prevented such a presentation but Cllr Gillian May, the Gotham Parish Council chair, made the award of a photo and photo frame to Ted at his home.

UMPIRE SEARCH. Popular Gotham Village Cricket Club with its 60 years of history within a great village atmosphere is looking for an umpire for the new season.

The club has two senior teams competing in Division C and J of the Gunn and More South Notts League and a newly formed 3rd XI playing in the South Nottinghamshire Development Cricket League on a Sunday.

The club say they also have a strong junior section with children starting as young as 5 on the All Stars programme and then onto the Kwik Cricket programme before moving through to the U11s, U12s, U14s and U15s at Hard Ball level.

All coaches are ECB qualified and the facilities for the juniors are recognised as being excellent.
