Please save as many trees as we can on building sites

-

My plea to the builders is - please, please save the trees.

This year, work is going to start on the construction of a roundabout and the building on 3,200 homes.

This is on the western side of the south bound duel carriage way in Hathern. The Pear Tree area. The prospect is really daunting. In recent years we have seen floods like never before at the northern end of the southbound duel carriageway.

This resulted in the A6 being closed into Loughborough more than once.

There are some mature trees on the boundary of the building site making it a very pleasant ride into town. I am hoping that they will be retained. Young new trees take a very long time to mature. Everyone now knows how important trees are to the environment. Sadly the policy in this area seems to be to chop hundreds down.

The areas affected are Stanford Hall, Zouch, Kegworth, The Willows at Zouch turn, into Rempstone Road, Kegworth roundabout, one whole side of the drive near the lodge at Hathern and the Fox Covert.

The policy to me seems to be that far more trees are cut down than is necessary.

Once they are felled, that is it. If only the builders could work round the mature ones people would not be so aggrieved. Trees are also things of great beauty. Many bugs and birds live in them.

The next worry for Hathern residents and everyone who drives through our village is the volume of traffic.

We already have a very high volume of all forms of traffic. I recently saw a car transporter with eight cars and a big van on board.

What a big responsibility for the driver. I hoped he wasn’t going over Zouch bridge. That’s another big project.

When the construction traffic gets under way at the Pear Tree site, there will be a lot more congestion at busy times. On a lighter note, can’t wait to get rid of my mask and wear my lipstick again.
