UCL vote on proposal to conclude its season

- By PETE WARRINGTON

TEAMS IN the Uhlsport United Counties League Premier Division have voted on a solution to avoid a second season being declared null and void.

Quorn, Shepshed Dynamo and Loughborough Uni FC were asked to vote on a proposal for the league season to be completed on the basis of every side playing each other once with promotion and relegation being decided on a 19 game season.

Each of the three local sides are in the frame for promotion with just five points separating the top five teams in the league.

Unbeaten Anstey Nomads top the table on 28 points with nine wins and a draw from 10 games played, with Loughborough Uni FC in second on 26 points having played 13 games.

Quorn lie fourth with 25 points from 12 games while Shepshed Dynamo are in fifth place with 23 points from 10 games played.

Quorn chairman Stuart Turner said he had voted for the proposal as he wanted a solution which avoided the season being scrapped altogether.

“We were robbed of promotion last season. Now the league management committee has recommended that when we can start playing again, everybody plays each other once.

“That’s the proposition and I think it’s achievable and a very fair way of doing it. We’d have eight games to play and others have got 10. There’s plenty of time to do that before the end of May.”

With two promotion places up for grabs, Turner is confident that Quorn can clinch one of them and move up to step four in the non league pyramid.

“We have the team to do it - we will face Anstey and Shepshed Dynamo and the other games are against teams in the bottom half of the table.

“We are ready to progress up the leagues, we have got a good team, a good manager and a solid foundation financially.”
