College gives a helping hand to foodbank at festive time
LOUGHBOROUGH College has donated food, toiletries and gift boxes to support a foodbank as part of a national campaign.
Staff and students from across the college were asked to make donations as part of the FE Foodbank Friday campaign, a college-led project to support foodbanks.
Scores of people answered the call and managed to fill a van with goods and products which were dropped off at New Life Community Church in Loughborough.
Heather Clarke, assistant principal at the college, said: “We are so proud that so many staff and students answered the appeal and donated so much.
“This ranged from our public and caring services teams to our Sixth Form who have done a fantastic job in gathering food and products to donate.
“In the current economic climate, and especially at this time of year, it is so vital that the community comes together to support our most vulnerable which is why we are so pleased to be part of the FE Foodbank Friday Campaign.”
Jules Ibbitt, the Loughborough Area Foodbank manager for the Trussell Trust, said:
“We are so grateful to the team at Loughborough College for this kind donation. It is so appreciated by our clients.
“Without question, it is becoming busier and we are seeing people come in that we have never seen before, such as tradespeople who are now out of work.
“My concern is that it will become even busier as we head towards spring when furlough schemes come to an end.
“We will need to work even harder to support those who are struggling.”
