Consider outcomes for all not just yourselves

- Martin Bull Loughborough Churches Partnership Nigel Riley Churches Together in Shepshed

DEAR Loughborough residents,

It’s that season again when we need to decide which political party will lead the government. Brexit has dominated the airwaves and tabloids for months now and no doubt will play a major role in the forthcoming elections.

On the 12th of December, the UK will decide who will lead us into what will be uncharted territories for many.

The church is integral to every society. Its members are part of the society.

While we are united in faith, our political persuasions may defer and encourage our members to freely express this at the polls in December.

We believe that amongst many, our role as a church includes to pray for all those standing for office and continue to pray for the elected after the elections.

Irrespective of our affiliations, the Bible encourages us to ‘seek the peace and prosperity’ of the land and to pray for the land because ‘if it prospers, you too will prosper’.

We therefore encourage that when we go to the polls, we put Nation first and consider the best outcomes for all people not just ourselves.

We encourage all to set aside apathy and participate in the elections. We will be playing our part in the democratic process and this is the least we can do.

We have no doubt that God cares deeply for Loughborough, Shepshed and this area and as many churches, united as one church, we will continue to work and pray for all those standing for election and for the good of the town.
