UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION WELLINGBOROUGH TOWN 3

QUORN 3

QUORN shared the spoils in a six goal thriller on Saturday in one of the few football fixtures which survived the weather conditions.

The game started at a fast pace and there were early appeals for a home penalty which were waved away by the referee.

With chances going begging for both sides it was Quorn who opened the scoring on 27 minutes when Stephen Hart found space to fire home despite attempts to block by the Wellingborough defenders.

And just 60 seconds later Quorn doubled their advantage when from a melee after a corner Kieran Fenton scored from 10 yards out.

The home side reduced the arrears in first half added on time when Stevenson headed home from a corner.

And within minutes of the restart, Wellingborough levelled the score at 2-2 when a right wing cross from Mellnig was headed home by Skriwoski.

Having being pegged back, Quorn regrouped and took the lead again on the hour mark through Sebastian Rowland.

Wellingborough kept pressing forward looking for a third goal to draw level again and dominated possession with two chances blocked in the six yard box and then a Town free kick was headed away by the Quorn defenders.

Finally in the final seconds of the match Wellingborough’s Liam Tuck found the net with a direct free kick which went in off the bar to make it 3-3 and earn the home side a point they possibly felt they deserved with a dominant second half performance.

After the match Quorn boss Martin Carruthers said he was disappointed to concede such as late equaliser.

“I’m bitterly disappointed, We are having too many draws and too many dropped points. We talk about game management but we are conceding goals in the 45th minute, the 46th minute and the last minute.

“When you are 2-0 up in a game you expect to win games of football.

“We are scoring plenty of goals but we are conceding far too many and it just can’t continue.

“These draws are killing us and we have to win games of football.”
