Photo society evening
SILEBY PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY held its usual Monday evening meeting on September 30, when visiting lecturer, Derek Buckett from Desborough & Rothwell Photographic Society, showed examples of his print photography presented under the banner “These are a few ...”
Derek’s interests and hobbies extended to many subjects and, throughout the years, his visits to people and places up and down the country were always accompanied by his trusted camera. This resulted in some delightful prints being shown, and an evening of interesting photography interjected with humorous commentary.
Portraiture, sea and landscapes, engines in full steam and others waiting to be restored, provided good pictures. Individuals dressed in appropriate gear reflecting the 40’s era whilst others taking part in re-enactment events, provided great and colourful material for the camera at those special events. “Bits of things” always caught Derek’s eye whereby he would focus the lens on a particular feature of a building, church or cathedral, as opposed to the whole construction, with good results.
Derek also included examples of pictures comprising the same subject but featuring a different take which, when presented together, formed an interesting panel and, as such, great to view.
Presented in either monochrome or colour, using different coloured mounts to suit the theme, all in all, this had been a real mix of pictures and Malcolm Coulton, president, reflected this in his thanks to him.
The society’s Annual Exhibition begins on Monday, October 14.
This is a week-long event held at the community centre and commences at 7pm. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and at 2pm and 1pm. on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons respectively.
This is always a popular event with the visiting public who will be able to enjoy viewing displays of members’ work captured on camera throughout the year. These will include mounted prints, colour and monochrome, and digital images, together with this year’s themed digital image audio visual presentation which features the subject “Coast”.
