Rolls up, Rolls up for sale
ASKING PRICE: £3.95M
ROLLS Park in Chigwell, Essex doesn’t just have one notable entry in the history books, it can claim at least four distinguished mentions.
The stately home was built in the 17th century and was the family seat of the Harvey family – Dr William Harvey discovered the circulation of blood in
1628 and Admiral Sir
Eliab Harvey fought alongside Admiral Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar.
Its last famous resident was General Sir Francis Lloyd who organised much of the defence and recruitment campaigns in London during the First World War. Winston Churchill also stayed there in 1924 during the election campaign for the Epping Forest seat in Parliament.
Although the main house was demolished in 1953, after requisition by the army during the war caused considerable harm to its interior and bomb blasts damaged the exterior, the estate’s stables, cottage and orangery survived.
The refurbished grade II listed converted stable block is now for sale.
Set in 0.8acres, it has five bedrooms – including a master suite with walk-in dressing room and free-standing antique copper roll-top bath – five reception rooms and a bespoke Clive Christian kitchen.
Features include a woodpanelled hallway, original parquet flooring and exposed timbers, cast iron radiators, an impressive staircase and double height ceilings.
There is also an underground spiral wine cellar with an electrically operated glass door.
