The Luffs turn on the style in a dominant display
LEICESTERSHIRE SENIOR LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
MAGNA 73 1 LOUGHBOROUGH FC 3 THE LUFFS have been threatening to deliver for a few weeks now and Saturday they did just that, arguable their best performance of the season to see off fourth placed Magna 73 and on their own patch.
Magna looked a bit uncertain in the early stages of the game as a determined Loughborough side pushed them back and closed them down quickly and it was no surprise after ten minutes that the visitors took the lead.
Jordan Crossland was the scorer whipping in a shot from close to the touch line and deceiving keeper Joe Wakeling to find the top corner.
It took Magna half an hour to mount any serious threat but they met with a substantial defensive line as centre back Matt Wright marshalled his defenders well.
The game balanced out as Magna began to show why they occupied a high position in the league but Loughborough continued to do their share of attacking and new man Christain Davis relished his role as an attacking wingback and rattled one against the Magna cross bar.
Magna saw a free kick just wide but half time saw the single goal lead still in tack and the Luffs looking fairly comfortable with it.
Any thought of a second half bus parking exercise were soon dispelled, this new Loughborough side believes in themselves and went looking for more goals. Davies was brought down in full flight and Crosland hit the free kick just over. Magna had a moment they thought they had scored the leveller but keeper Harry Burton was a full stretch to tip the shot onto the post and palm it to safety.
But Magna were not coping well with this lively Loughborough side and conceded a series of free kicks which eventually brought the Luffs second goal. Davies delivered the kick and Emmanuel Ndlovu forced the ball into the net from close range giving Loughborough a more comfortable and deserved margin.
Magna had other ideas they went down the other end and Chris Bell headed in from close range to make it 1-2 and an interesting end to the game.
Kyle Dawes was brought down in full flight and Jordan Crossland beat keeper Wakeling with the resulting free kick to make it 1-3 and the Luffs were back in control.
Magna hit the bar in the dying minutes but by then it was all over bar the shouting; the Luffs had brought their run of defeats to an end with an impressive performance.
