Movember Foundation gets £1,100 cash booster
LOUGHBOROUGH Dynamo’s walking football team has raised more than £1,000 after staging a charity football match for the Movember Foundation at the Nanpantan Sports Ground in Loughborough
Walking football is a variant of football that is aimed at keeping people aged over 50 involved with football if, due to a lack of mobility or for other reasons, they are not able to play the traditional game, while The Movember Foundation is a charity which aims to raise awareness of men’s health, addressing topics like prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
Members of the Loughborough Dynamo walking football group put their razors to one side for the month to grow their moustaches for the ‘Movember’ cause and on November 30 staged a match against LPF 88 (Leicester People Football).
Event organiser Jerry King said the event had been a great success and raised more than they originally aimed for.
“Although it was a very cold night, many family and friends turned up to support the evening. LPF88 were the opposition and put up a fine display, eventually running out winners 4-2.
“After a very slow and one might say confused start by Loughborough Dynamo, we managed to find our feet but alas, the inaugural MoBro Cup went the way of the opposition.
“We have managed to raise over £1,100 over the month, which far exceeded my expectations. Our aim is to continue supporting this event as part of the club’s wider drive to encourage Loughborough men of a certain age that things don’t stop working at 50+. We enjoy our time each Thursday evening and would very much like to expand it further.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the club, team members, family and friends whose spirit came through in supporting this event.”
