Mono methods
BILL Allsopp was the guest photographer at Sileby Photographic Society’s meeting held on Monday, 27th February when he gave an informed presentation under the title ‘Digital Monochrome Methods’.
He began by projecting a raw digital image, usually colour, and after employing the tools and techniques available in either Photoshop or Lightroom, it was fascinating to see the original image having been transformed to one of monochrome.
The facilities available within these elements allowed for many enhancements, i.e. texture, density, light, shade, etc., and the results were quite remarkable.
To the untutored, it was even more so, and it was interesting to see the various methods available for use in today’s photographic world. Certain elements suited certain images better than others but, at the end of the day, personal choice always came into the equation particularly after experimenting for sometimes hours on end.
After the interval, Bill went on to show by example how he had achieved best results and explained how he had done this.
This had been quite an eye-opener, let alone educative, and for the enthusiastic modern-day photographer, the possibilities of achieving the perfect image know no bounds.
John Hoogerwerf thanked Bill for a great evening, whereby he had managed to convey a number of important issues with a view to concentrating on monochrome pictures, and identifying so many different ways to achieve the required end results. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Members and their guests will have an evening away from usual photographic activities when they meet at a local hostelry for a Skittles evening on Monday, 13th March, always a fun evening and well attended.
Visitors and prospective new members are always welcome to attend the usual Monday meetings which commence at 7.45pm for 8pm and are held at Sileby Community Centre.
