RAIN LEAVES CLUBS PLAYING CATCH-UP

-

TREBANOS and Tata Steel were both left frustrated in the National Championship after Storm Callum caused chaos in the rugby schedules.

Trebanos were due to travel to Rhydyfelin while Tata Steel were set to entertain Newcastle Emlyn but both games were called off.

Trebanos remain fifth in the table while Tata Steel stay fourth from bottom although they now have two games in hand on some of their rivals.

Tata will hope the weather clears up in time for their clash with Beddau on Saturday, while Trebanos are due to host Beddau.

Pontypool’s trip to Bedlinog was also called off and that meant Cardiff Met leapfrogged them into top spot as they beat Newbridge 17-7.

Narberth also had the weekend off as their fixture with Maesteg Quins was cancelled, but Ystrad Rhondda managed to bag a 20-17 win at Beddau.

The weather was also the big winner in One West, with four games cancelled, but there was still plenty of drama in the two fixtures that did go ahead.

Leaders Felinfoel fell to their first defeat of the season as Dunvant recorded an emphatic 31-17 victory.

Sam Hawkes, Mark Robins, Ben Ley, Robbie Morris and Adam Gregory ensured Dunvant took maximum points, while Adam Williams kicked three conversions.

Lawrence Holcombe added to a penalty try for Felinfoel, who saw Aled Roberts boot five points.

Felinfoel still lead the table by three points after second-placed Gowerton were also beaten, 26-15 at Hendy.

Bleddyn Thomas claimed all of Gowerton’s points but tries from Aled Thomas, Jake Newman and Rhydian Morris swung the game in Hendy’s favour.

Morris then wrapped up the win with three penalties and a conversion.

Those results made it a good weekend for Llangennech, who are nine points off the top with two games in hand, including one against basement boys Tenby United who they were due to play this weekend.

Kidwelly’s trip to Crymych was also postponed, along with Gorseinon v Aberystwyth and Whitland v Llanelli Wanderers.
