A MAN has been jailed after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a girl over two years from when she was six years old.

The crimes were committed by Daniel Rawlinson, now 46, in the city between 1990 and 1991.

At Leicester Crown Court, Rawlinson was sentenced to six years and eight months’ imprisonment, having pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent assault, one count of rape and one count of assault by penetration at a hearing in October.

The abuse was brought to the attention of police in 2020 after the victim disclosed what had happened to her during her childhood.

She told officers from Leicestershire Police’s Child Abuse Investigation Unit (CAIU) that, when she was a child, Rawlinson had touched her inappropriately multiple times and that she was once raped by him.

She also told officers that there were occasions where he had acted aggressively towards her and that she was scared of him.

Rawlinson, of Overpark Avenue in Braunstone, was also placed on the

sex offender register indefinitely, and is subject to a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Detective Constable Andy Day, from the CAIU non-recent team, was the investigating officer.

He said: “During the course of the investigation, the victim in this case provided a detailed account of what happened more than 30 years ago.

“This allowed us to charge Rawlinson with a number of offences.

“Thankfully, she has not had to relive her ordeal again, in front of a jury.

“I hope the fact he’s now serving a significant prison sentence will provide a degree of closure and allow her to move on with her life.

“I also hope that today’s outcome will remind victims of such offences across our communities that it’s never too late to speak out.”
