Under-23s start with impressive win over Man Utd
LEICESTER City Under-23s followed in the first team’s footsteps by starting their league campaign with an impressive win.
City’s development squad beat their Manchester United counterparts 2-0 on Monday night to start their Premier League 2 season with three points.
Ali Reghba was rewarded for his strong pressing game, the Irish striker capitalising on a mistake before instinctively finishing.
Full-back Mitch Clark scored a stunning second for City, finding the top corner from 20 yards. After finishing second last season, City will be up for a title challenge again in Premier League 2.
Head coach Steve Beaglehole has been very impressed with what he has seen so far.
“I thought they were magnificent,” he said. Then, when they did actually break through, the keeper Jakub (Stolarczyk) made two or three magnificent saves, absolutely top, top-drawer.
“I’m struggling to say to you who’s the man of the match because I thought, again, like against Hull (a 2-1 win in the EFL Trophy), a lot of the players got good marks.
“They were very well disciplined again. I think the team, with Ben (Petty, assistant Under-23s coach) particularly, are a very well-coached, disciplined, side; good in possession, good out of possession.
“It’s really, really pleasing and, to come here, and play them with the quality they’ve got, the athleticism they’ve got and not concede is a big testimony to the way the lads have played.”
