Traffic-calming set to go
£250,000 OF IMPROVEMENTS TO TOWN ROAD INCLUDES REMOVING THREE CHICANES
TRAFFIC-CALMING measures on a busy road are to be removed.
Leicestershire County Council is proposing £250,000 of improvements to Ashby Road, in Coalville.
Changes would be made between the junctions with Discovery Close and Ravenstone Road, and near Linden Way.
Traffic-calming work was installed in 1996 after a spate of accidents resulting in injuries.
The proposed changes include removal of three chicanes, as well as removal of 13 sheltered parking and traffic calming areas.
There would be 16 extra on-street parking spaces and an extension of the advisory 20mph zone outside a school.
There are also proposals for safety improvements to the entrance to Snibston Discovery Park.
Two crossing points would be built, and four others improved and unnecessary street furniture such as guard railings would be removed.
The county council is holding a consultation changes.

“It’s an opportunity for people to have their say and play a part in shaping the future look of Ashby Road.”
The scheme is being jointly funded with North West Leicestershire District Council.
The proposals are now on display in the main entrance to the administrative office at Snibston Country Park, opposite Linden Way.
The display will remain open to the public to both view and leave comments until Friday.
