AN INTERNET star who puts away thousands of calories in eating challenges, made short work of his meal at Ye Olde Rock Inn, in Upper Hulme.

Youtuber Adam Moran, aka Beard Meats Food, was a surprise visitor to the 200-year-old pub, run by Amie and Edward Haydon.

Landlady Amie welcomed Adam and his wife, ‘Mrs Beard,’ into the rural pub’s dining area and let them choose their own table on a quiet Wednesday afternoon.

Amie had no idea the pub had a celebrity in its midst – Adam has more than 3.6 million subscribers on Youtube – until the chefs recognised him.

The online star ordered a steak with veg and polished it off in less than 10 minutes.

Amie said: “The couple were on a date and were travelling through the area. They saw a sign for Ye Olde Rock Inn and decided to come in for some food, so it was just by chance that they came in. We were lucky.

“He walked in and I treated him and his wife like normal customers, I told them that they can sit where they like as we weren’t busy at the time.

“Then the chefs ran out from the kitchen for photos with him, and I thought ‘he must be famous,’ so I asked the staff who he was and they told me and showed me his Youtube channel. It’s great to have someone so wellknown pop in.

“He came for a steak, he wasn’t doing a challenge, it was his day off. He didn’t have chips or onion rings which the steak usually comes with, he just wanted veg as he said he’d be too full otherwise.

“We ask our customers if everything’s okay with their food between five to 10 minutes into their meal, and when I went over to ask them Adam had already finished his plate.

“He’s a very fast eater. I suppose it’s because he’s used to doing all the eating challenges and has to eat really quickly.

“He’s a really nice person, he was happy to have a chat with us and said he’s doing a lot of work in America at the moment because he keeps getting invited to their eating challenges.”

Ye Olde Rock Inn is popular amongst families and hikers who fancy a bite to eat after visiting The Roaches.

Amie added: “Our chefs make our food from scratch using freshly, locally sourced ingredients in all our meals.

“Edward’s parents, Hilary and John, had the pub since 1985, retired in 2009 and had a tenant there for 20 years until 2019, and then they refurbished it. Then we took it over and reopened in August 2021.

“We have two-dog friendly rooms, including the pool room. Our opening hours are longer in the summer than the winter as it’s busier during the summer months.”

Ye Olde Rock Inn is open Wednesday to Saturday from noon until 10.30pm (food served until 8.30pm), and on Sundays from noon until 10pm, with food being served until 6.30pm during the colder months.

As well as steak the menu includes Sunday Lunches, burgers, pies, sea bass, fish and chips, sandwiches and desserts to name a few. There is a children’s menu, and vegan and gluten-free options are available.
