PM has failed to earn my trust

Paul Kennett is copying Boris Johnson’s rhetoric [Letters, November 21], namely making sweeping statements. The latter’s boast of building 40 new hospitals, including one for Canterbury springs to mind, which now turns out to be only six, with Canterbury nowhere in sight! Mr Kennett starts his letter by saying: “Three years ago the population of the UK was asked if we wanted to stay in the EU. The majority voted to leave.”

The reality is that although the entire population of 66.5 million will be affected by Brexit, only 70% were registered voters. Of these 46.8 million people, just 17.4 million voted to leave the EU, representi­ng 37.2% of the registered voters - hardly a majority! If one considers the entire population that Mr Kennett

■ Without having quoted Mr Gove in full [Letters, November 21], I think the meaning of his views about so called experts were clear. Whenever those in areas of authority, including the directors of the Bank of England, CBI, and other bodies connected with industry, academia, science, medicine and security, published their views, Mr Gove was quick to class them as doom-mongers or the equivalent. Surely on the other hand they should have a closer and more detailed knowledge of their area of expertise than, if I may quote the immortal words of Sir Robin Day to the then Secretary of State for Defence John Nott, “a transient here today and gone tomorrow politician”.
