A gig worth waiting for

After cancelling a Kent show in 2019, Jess Glynne will finally be playing in the county

She’s sold millions of singles, won a Grammy Award and became the first British female solo artist to have seven No. 1 singles on the UK Singles Chart. So what’s next for Jess Glynne?

A headline concert at Kent’s most colourful seaside venue, of course.

The record-breaking singer is making her debut on the coast this weekend as part of the Margate Summer Series, which has seen the likes of Nile Rodgers, Simple Minds and Madness perform over the past couple of months.

After taking a three-year break from music, the popstar is returning to the stage to promote the release of her third album, Jess.

Her headline set at Thanet’s quirky vintage fairground will include the artist’s comeback single, Silly Me, as well as her back catalogue of music.

Jess Glynne first rose to fame after providing guest vocals for huge tracks by house producer Route 94 and electronic music band Clean Bandit in 2014, both of which reached the top of the charts.

Since then, the musician has broken out as a formidable solo artist and released a string of No. 1 hits, including Hold My Hand, Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself and I’ll Be There.

Her first two albums, I Cry When I Laugh and Always In Between, achieved Platinum status and saw the artist nominated for nine BRIT Awards.

Over the past decade, the Londonborn singer has also collected a Grammy Award, three Ivor Novello nominations and supported the Spice Girls on their nationwide stadium tour.

However, her career hasn’t been without controversy.

In 2019, Jess was banned from the Isle of Wight Festival after cancelling her set with only 10 minutes’ warning. She also cancelled a series of performances later that year, including a night at the Rochester Castle Concerts, and more recently has been in the press for her high-profile relationship with former footballer and TV presenter Alex Scott.

Despite going on a short hiatus, the 34-year-old singer signed a new record deal with EMI last year and announced a series of live shows in the USA and some UK festival appearances.
