Impressive loos that are clean winners

-

You might think a landlord running a busy pub would get so bogged down managing the bar and kitchen, the decor of the toilets would fall by the wayside.

But that definitely isn’t the case at Ashford’s Wetherspoon pub, where staff have been flushed with success after winning an award for their conveniences.

The County Hotel’s toilet brush with fame came after it was given a platinum star rating – the top award possible – in the Loo of the Year Awards 2014 when inspectors passed by and anonymously graded the lavs.

Manager Simon Pitcher, who must have been relieved to hear the good news, said: “I am delighted with the award. Staff at the pub work hard to ensure the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it is great this has been recognised by the inspectors.”

The chain pub must have spent a penny or two on the loos as inspectors praised the decor, hand washing and drying equipment and accessibility as well as the cleanliness, maintenance and overall management.

Hundreds of lavatories across the UK were examined with the worst getting no award and WCs that gave the judges something good to go on being graded from bronze to platinum.

Loo of the Year Awards 2014 managing director, Mike Bone, added: “The toilets at The County Hotel have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained.

“The pub richly deserves its platinum award, the highest individual award the judges can deliver.”

But if you want to see toilets causing a real stir we recommend U-bend over backwards to visit Dobbies Garden Centre on the Eureka Leisure Park where the powder room has petal power.

The men’s urinals are simply Charmin as they have been crafted into the shape of British flowers such as the bee orchid, great willowherb and snake’s head fritillary.

The designers were clearly on a toilet roll by then as they also created Plenty of flower-inspired sinks in the ladies so the women didn’t get a bum deal.

If you can’t handle any more loo puns don’t worry, we’ll put a lid on it now and bog off.
