Riverside Gallery update: The September exhibition starts on Monday, August 28 from 2-5pm, and runs through to September 30. Sue Batt’s mixed media work, Pauline Budd’s miniaturis­t art, Valerie Lovatt’s new and unusual photograph­s and Karen Ann Sharp’s driftwood sculpture, inspired by the sea, will be on show every Monday, Thursday and Saturday from 2-5pm. Late barbecue tickets: If you missed getting tickets in advance for the School Gambia barbecue, they will be available on the day at the gate at Thatchers, Benover Road, from noon on Sunday, August 27. Don’t forget a rug or chair to sit on. Village Voices will be holding their final rehearsal for the barbecue on Saturday, August 26 from 2pm at Thatchers. At the barbecue they will be joined by Childe Rolande and Relative Minors. Food and live music all day, plus games for all the family and Gambian crafts. DJ Gordon: More music will feature at The George on Saturday, August 26 from 8pm, when DJ Gordon returns to provide another lively session to accompany your drink/ freshly cooked meal. 27, St Peter & St Paul’s church Village Pensioners’ Club: The VPC group gets together next on Tuesday, August 29 from 2-4pm at the village Social Club. Teddy bears: A teddy bears’ picnic will be held at The Vicarage on Thursday, August 31 from 3.305.30pm. Family tickets at £10 each are available from the village Tearooms or from any member of the Kish family. The price includes a picnic, a best dressed teddy competitio­n, a teddy treasure hunt and face painting. Take a rug and your teddy. The event is to support fundraisin­g for next year’s World Challenge, when a team, including members of the Kish family, will be travelling to Cambodia to embark on a trek through the jungle, followed by work in the local villages. Scholarshi­ps for students: University students who attended Yalding, Laddingfor­d or Collier Street primary schools for a minimum of two years are invited once again to apply for a scholarshi­p from Yalding Educationa­l Foundation, which is a charity supporting the education of youngsters in our community. Last year 22 local Higher Education students each received £300 from the Foundation. You are welcome to apply whether you have just been accepted for a university place this autumn, or whether you are about to start a new academic year. No worries whether or not you have applied before, with or without success. Applicatio­ns in respect of the academic year 2017/18 are invited by LETTER to the clerk to the Foundation, Jenny Scott, at The Hollies, Benover Road, Yalding, ME18 6EL. Applicatio­ns should state which primary school was attended and when, brief details of their university/college course, and their home and termtime address. If an email address is included, applicants will receive acknowledg­ement of their applicatio­n. All applicatio­ns must be received by October 1, 2017. Roadworks: KCC will be carrying out ironwork adjustment­s (manholes and gully gratings) on Tuesday, August 29 and it is expected to last for up to three days. Vicarage Road will be closed between 9.30am and 3.30pm. Access to properties within the site will be maintained at all times although vehicle access to individual properties may be restricted.
