It was advised that Maidstone Neighbourh­ood Watch had recently launched a ‘Guard Cam’ which is a complete all-in-one PIR floodlight, speaker and DVR system and is a useful tool in regards to home safety. It can be purchased from the website www.maidstonen­hw.co.uk Recreation Ground: More visible ‘No Dog’ signs have been erected at the Recreation Ground and car park. There is a risk of serious illness and even blindness from toxocarias­is carried in dog faeces, and users of the recreation ground had to be protected. Speedwatch: The purchase of the equipment was proceeding. Highways: The placement of three automated traffic counts on the Lenham Road, Ulcombe for a period of seven days was agreed in order to assess the traffic volume and speed travelled. Musical cream tea: Enjoy a brass band concert and cream tea with The UK Paper Band at All Saints’ Church on Sunday, June 19 at 3pm. This event has been organised by the Friends of All Saints’ Church. Farmers’ market: The June market was greeted by wall to wall sunshine. A steady stream of customers came and, once again, Teston bakery sold out completely, despite bringing double supply of bread. Grandma Bakes stepped in to provide the kitchen treats while Mandy was away for a well deserved weekend break. Unfortunat­ely, stall holders, Steve the Fish and Carol May cards were unable to come along due to illness and send their apologies to everyone. The market has made two charity donations recently; £80 from the March market went to Demelza Hospice towards specialise­d nursing care and £60 from the April market to East Farleigh Brownies for new sports equipment. Boys’ football: Outside Edge: Beer Festival: Garden society: The Summer Show takes place on Saturday, June 18 at 2.30pm in the village hall. All are welcome to go along and enjoy the displays of vegetables, fruit and flowers. There will be refreshmen­ts available. Farmers’ market: The monthly market will take place in the High Street on Saturday June 18 from 10am-1pm. Baroque concert: The church will host a Baroque Concert on Saturday, June 18 at 7.30pm. Yalding born Rose Martin will be the guest soloist performing folk songs and 18th Century operatic arias. The Baroque Singers from Tunbridge Wells, directed by Laddingfor­d’s Anthony Purnell, will sing British folk songs and songs from overseas. Anne Purnell will play the hurdy gurdy and Tim Garside will play percussion. Tickets are available from the post office. Village Pensioners’ Club: Local pensioners will meet at the Social Club in the High Street on Tuesday June 21 from 2-4pm. A welcome is offered to all retired residents, as the group enjoy bingo, chat and a cup of tea. Baptist service: Holy Communion will be taken at the Baptist service on Sunday June 19 at 10.30am. There will be Sunday School for the youngsters and refreshmen­ts to follow the service. All are welcome. Little Venice events: If there is sufficient interest, Little Venice Golf Tournament will take place on Friday June 24. Express an interest to Doreen on 07968 984704 as soon as possible. Local flood group: The George hosted a crowd of residents last Wednesday to hear of some possible short term measures to protect the community from flooding before and after the planned new flood barriers are built. The groups’ plans include widening the river and opening up more of the arches at the local bridges, which could reduce a potential flood by a foot. Fancy a ramble: Tonbridge and Malling Ramblers’ walk starts at 10am on Sunday, June 19 from the Anchor in Hampstead Lane. This will be a six mile leisurely walk and dogs on leads are welcome. Details from the walk leader on 07836 529682. Eight runs short: The cricket club lost to Headcorn CC by just 8 runs last weekend. Having won the toss and bowled, Yalding bowlers bowled extremely well, but were let down by some inconsiste­nt catching. Neverthele­ss, Headcorn was held to 115-9 from their 40 overs. Captain James Fenn took four, and youngsters Edward Mead and Josh Gregory took two each. In reply, Yalding made a slow but steady start. Top order batsmen Jonathan Fenn, Mark woods and Samual Faulkner frustrated the Headcorn bowlers, but runs were hard to come by. As Yalding tried to up the run rate, wickets fell, and despite a
