Frustration over pair’s medication
ORDERING PRESCRIPTION IS ‘DISGRACEFUL’
AN elderly couple have been left “frustrated” due to a prescription nightmare that has “given them the run around”.
Dorothy and David Nelson, both 74, say they have been having trouble when trying to pick up their prescriptions over the past three months.
Despite ordering in advance the couple have been unable to receive their prescription on time, which leaves them close to running out of medication.
“We are both 74 and we just don’t need the hassle,” said Mr Nelson. “Nobody has given me a straight answer. It is steadily getting worse.”
“Last month, my wife was on the phone for one hour and 15 minutes and she was 20-something in the list. They told her it would be there after 2pm.
“I went down there and there must have been 20 people outside the pharmacy, but it was closed.”
David has hereditary heart disease and his wife suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.
This month, the couple, who live in Sunk Island, ordered their repeat prescription on Tuesday, October 13, but when Mr Nelson went to pick up the order the following
Wednesday (October 21) he was told there was no medication for him or his wife.
“On Friday morning, I went to a chemist in Hedon and said to them my wife is short in diabetes tablets. The lady behind the counter said they can’t intervene without the GP’S say so.
“I went to the doctor in Keyingham and the lady there tried her best and she said to me our prescription was in Hedon, but warned me there will be a queue.
“I stood there for 35 minutes outside and eventually I got in to be told our prescription is pending. I said don’t you dare tell me that. The hassle I had been through that morning.
“The lady came back and said there is one and then went under the counter and there was the other.”
A backlog with prescriptions was the excuse given to David while at the pharmacy.
“There is no change in our medication,” said David. “It has repeated month after month and it has been like that for probably the past two years now.
“If they have a backlog, why don’t they employ more staff, even on a part-time basis?
“To order it was quite simple to do. You tick the boxes of medications and they would text you back when it was ready to pick up. We have not received a text in three months.
“We will probably have the same problem next month. We are not the only ones it has happened to. It is just not fair and you get frustrated.”
“This is disgraceful. They are playing with people’s lives.”
