Mum’s grief after tragedy strikes twice
HER SON AND BROTHER BOTH DIE IN SPACE OF THREE YEARS
THE heartbroken sister of a young man who died in a motorcycle accident has told of her grief after losing him and her own little boy within the space of just three years.
Katie Joyce, 28, of Quarmby lost her brother Marcus Joyce, 23, on the evening of September 21 when he was fatally injured when a Volkswagen Tiguan collided with his Suzuki off-road motorcycle that he was riding.
The accident took place on Blackmoorfoot Road, Huddersfield, close to the junction with Andrew Crescent.
His funeral service will take place at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Somerset Road, Aspley, today, from noon, followed by interment at Hey Lane Cemetery, Castle Hill.
And the mum-of-three admitted she is still trying to come to terms with the death of her fouryear-old boy Enzo who died on November 15, 2018, within hours of being struck down with meningitis despite showing hardly any symptoms. Katie said: “Marcus loved bikes and was riding pedal ones from the age of two years old. He was bike-crazy all his life.
“He did some joinery and would go away on jobs but his main work was for Marcel at Bubbles Car Wash at the Esso fuel station, New Hey Road, Oakes.
“He was a great brother. We would have some argument or other but the next moment he would ring me and the next thing I would be bringing him some food!
“He would do anything for us and is much missed by all his family including my children
Reeco and R’Kayio as well as little Riyad.
“His twin sister Riannan gave birth to Riyad two days after he died so it has been a complete emotional rollercoaster - we don’t know what to feel.
“I’m expecting around 150 people at the service and there will be an awful lot of bikers. He wasn’t part of a formal group as such but he used to know a lot of them and would go off to Manchester and Coventry.
“If he wasn’t out biking he was out working and if he wasn’t out working he was looking after my kids.”
