Where does town fit in our £40m super plan?

-

Norman Jewison, film director, 94; Julian Pettifer, TV presenter, 85; Yusuf Islam, activist and former singer (Cat Stevens), 72; Ross Kemp, actor, 56; Chris Bisson, actor, 45; Josh Hartnett (pictured), actor, 42; Paloma Faith (pictured), singer, 39.

KIRKLEES council have agreed a £40m local economic recovery plan.

Dewsbury seems to come out of it very well. Pioneer House will be open soon. Investment plans aim to revive the Kingsway and Empire House.

The council also wants to revitalise Dewsbury market and demolish the Co-op building, to make way for a pocket park. What is a pocket park?

Huddersfield, meanwhile faces a mass of demolition work around the Piazza to create a green open space. Creating how many jobs?

The stallholders of Queensgate market are moving to the open market area on Brook Street. The Queensgate market becoming a sound space?

The other aims of the plan. i.e. bus station revamp costing £8m, a garden street costing £5.3m between Market Street and Cloth Hall Street... what is a garden street? The only Garden Street I know of is in Lockwood!

Other monies: £2.35m on the George Hotel/Estate buildings. Is this extra to the purchasing of the George Hotel?

Plus £2.1m on Cross Church street for what?

It would be interesting to know how many permanent jobs will be created in Huddersfield/Dewsbury for £40m?

Where do the motorists of Huddersfield fit in under this recovery plan and the £25m 10-year super plan?

Ashamed to be a Town supporter

AFTER hearing of the Cowleys being sacked, for one of the few times after watching Town for over 60 years, I felt ashamed to be a Town supporter.

They have done what was expected of them when they came in. After all, we had one point after eight games.

I think our chairman has lost the plot. He paid Lincoln a large amount to secure their services.

It’s about time we let managers manage for more than a few months. Surely we should have given them another season?

They all seem like a bunch of wallies!

I THINK Martin Charlesworth has it dead right, describing the Government as consisting of Boris, Dominic Cummings and a Cabinet of ‘nodding dogs’ (Feedback, July 15).

Having consulted a dictionary, it seems a system of government by a small group of people is defined as an oligarchy.

I can’t help thinking though, that a more appropriate description of our current system of government might, in fact, be a wallygarchy.

Once here, she won’t be sent back to Syria

IS Shamima Begum’s appeal against having her citizenship revoked her lawyer’s way of getting her and other terrorist affiliates’ feet in the door?

I doubt they will send her back to the Syrian refugee camp if she loses. Will this appeal be at taxpayer’s expense?
