Hodgkinson’s tough calls in Town tenure

THE chairman had taken over expecting Mooy would leave the club in the near future, and the Australian would ultimately leave on transfer deadline day for Brighton and Hove Albion – though the structure of the deal was somewhat unorthodox.

Mooy’s deal had been set to expire at the end of June 2020 but as a token of appreciati­on towards the Terriers he agreed to sign a new three-year deal with Town before going on loan.

That protected his transfer value and – taking into account both the initial loan fee and the January transfer fee that followed – helped Town get a better fee than they otherwise would have done.

THE Town faithful’s lack of faith in Siewert began as a noticeable grumble in their 2-1 opening day defeat to Derby County and reached a full rolling boil three games later as a second-string Town side were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Danny Cowley’s Lincoln City.

Hodgkinson gave Siewert one more game to save himself, but the 2-1 defeat to Fulham the following Friday evening proved the final straw and Siewert’s dismissal was announced within an hour of the final whistle. He had led Town to just one competitiv­e win during his seven months in charge.
