PRIDE OF BRITAIN:

-

VERY Pride of Britain show is packed with truly unforgettable moments, from hilarious surprises to emotional reunions and poignant presentations. Here we look back at just some of the magical memories from the last 20 years, many of which feature in Sunday’s unmissable show.

Teenager of Courage Moin Younis had the audience in hysterics in 2017 with his cheeky advice to England manager Gareth Southgate. And he won over the Royals too when he threw his Aston Villa scarf to fellow fan Prince William.

In 2002, heroes from 9/11 were honoured. Firefighter Mike Kehoe, who was pictured going up Tower One of the World Trade Center moments before it collapsed, received a bravery award from Tony Blair, on behalf of all of the New York heroes.

When meningitis survivor Lydia Cross, six, received her Child of Courage award in 2007, she thought dad Tony was 3,000 miles away working in Baghdad. In fact, the former soldier had flown home to surprise his overjoyed daughter on stage.

Lollipop lady Karin Williams, 50, didn’t think twice when a car hurtled towards children at a school crossing. She dived in front of the car and pushed the youngsters to safety, leaving her with serious injuries. Karin was overcome with emotion as she was reunited with some of those she saved in 2013.

Lenny Henry honoured Britain’s Ebola medics in 2015 after they risked their lives to save thousands during the epidemic in West Africa. Nurse Pauline Cafferkey, who had caught the potentially fatal disease, was reunited on stage with a young survivor from Sierra Leone.

Young Fundraiser Ted McCaffery was surprised on stage by Olly Murs and whisked off to Paris by private jet – with a police escort to the airport. He was celebrating with Mickey and pals by the end of the 2014 show.

Two global icons met in 2013 when David Beckham handed the Teenager of Courage award to Malala, the schoolgirl who defied the Taliban. David said:

Young Fundraiser of the Year Cameron Small pied Cheryl Cole in the face – all in the name of charity at the 2010 awards. She had agreed to the custard pie treatment to raise £15,000 for Manchester Children’s Hospital.

Some of the most memorable Pride of Britain moments include when stars flew to war zones to honour our forces. Ant and Dec saw the risks our soldiers face first hand when they came under Taliban rocket attack

cash for good causes at Kandahar airbase in 2008. Other celebrities who have presented awards on the frontline include Cheryl Cole, Sir David Jason, Ewan McGregor, Gary Lineker and Andrew Flintoff.

In 2013, David Walliams dressed up as a bee to surprise 91-year-old Jean Bishop, known as the Bee Lady because of her fundraising costume.

Sir Nicholas Winton, 93, saved the lives of 669 children, destined for Nazi death camps, by organising freedom trains to Britain. Relatives of some of those he rescued were on stage to pay tribute to the Lifetime Achievement award winner in 2003. One said: “Without him none of us would be here. He saved our lives.”

Pride of Britain provides some of

TV’s funniest moments too. Flight attendant Carol Miller, who saved a baby’s life at 30,000 feet, was surprised over the tannoy by Peter Kay at Manchester Airport in 2009. David Walliams
