Things are going to get better, promises Mark

TOWN were just minutes away from earning a creditable draw at Cardiff on Wednesday night until Junior Hoilett snatched an 88th minute winner for the Welshmen.

What did we learn from that heartbreaking defeat?

QPR: 83rd minute equaliser. Fulham: 80th minute winner. Cardiff: 88th minute winner.

After the QPR game Tommy Elphick suggested that lack of confidence is proving costly.

The logic of that is sound - but add up the number of late goals they’re giving up, the general lack of energy about the side, and the number of fouls they have conceded in each of their away games to put themselves under yet more pressure from set pieces, and we’re starting to wonder whether everyone in this side is as fit as they should be.

Town are the only side in the division to have conceded as many as three goals in the last 15 minutes of games.

The club will obviously have detailed data on player fitness but after starting pre-season early, giving those on international duty time to recover, and going all

“There is plenty to work with in our squad,” said Hudson. “What I have asked of them over the last couple of days they have taken on board - you could see it in spells.

“Unfortunately it wasn’t enough, but they have definitely taken on board what I have asked of them.

“We showed some of our style, some of our identity, we were brave - but we just lacked a little bit later on in the game.”

Hudson added: “We changed the formation, which I think suits us, but we made too many fouls against a team that likes that.

“So we learn, we’ve got a bit of time to pick them up and that’s what we’ll do. We will remain level headed, there is a long way to go in the season, and we will go again.”

Hudson felt Cardiff attacked too easily at times. He explained: “I think the distances were a bit too big and we maybe didn’t get enough pressure on the goalkeeper.

“That leaves you at a place like Cardiff having to deal with the second ball, so we have to learn from it and go from there.”

Hudson says nothing has been said about timescale and a new permanent appointment, so he will just focus on the next game.
