Boost for Siewert as Diakhaby returns

-

Siewert added: “After one minute we were on the back foot and I had to protect Jon Stankovic.

“He was outstanding at No.6 against Wolves to be fair, and the way he lost the ball was, for him, the hardest thing of course, but I have to back him.

“Every one of my players went to him and tried to help him and we showed the reaction.

“Afterwards we had a fantastic 15 minutes where we were on the front foot, in Liverpool, at Anfield, and the way our supporters reacted was amazing once more.

“For me and for the players this is a long life experience and the things we learn out of this year will get us stronger for next year, definitely.” JAN Siewert is delighted to have Adama Diakhaby back in the reckoning for the final two matches of the Premier League season.

The German head coach named Diakhaby on the bench at Anfield for the first time since the home defeat by Arsenal two-and-a-half months ago.

The 22-year-old Frenchman has been sidelined by a hamstring injury and Siewert revealed before the 5-0 defeat at Liverpool that they had to be 100 per cent sure Diakhaby was ready to return, simply because of his game being based on sprinting.

The former Monaco player did not get a chance against Jurgen Klopp’s side, as Siewert opted to use Chris Lowe, Alex Pritchard and Elias Kachunga – the last two in the final 10 minutes.

Siewert explained his thoughts on having Diakhaby out of treatment, back on the training ground and, finally, into the matchday squad.

“It was good to have him back, but this was not a game for him because we have to protect our players and him also,” said Siewert.

“But it is good that he is back and he has no problems any more.” Diakhaby has played only 12 times this season, but is yet to register for Town following his £8m summer move.
