SOBHI’S HOME ON LOAN

TOWN’S EGYPT STAR IS BACK AT BOYHOOD CLUB FOR REST OF SEASON AFTER DEAL

- By MEL BOOTH

HUDDERSFIELD Town winger Ramadan Sobhi has rejoined boyhood club Al Ahly on loan for the remainder of the 2018/19 campaign.

The wide man joined the Terriers in the summer from relegated Stoke City for a fee of £5.7m.

But, after injury kept the Egypt international sidelined at the start of the Premier League season, Ramadan struggled to break into the Town first team, making just four appearances from the bench for the Terriers in all competitions. The forward has now resigned with the Egyptian Premier League champions, having left Cairo for Stoke in 2016 after 11 years with his childhood side.

In his first stint with The Red Giant, the 21-year-old won two league titles, a pair of Egyptian Super Cups and one CAF Confederations Cup.

Ramadan’s loan spell will begin on the opening of the January transfer window in four days’ time.

On the winger’s loan move, head coach David Wagner said: “Ramadan has been a little unlucky with circumstances this season. After a decent pre-season, he suffered an injury just before the start of the Premier League and it took some time to clear.

“When he eventually regained full fitness, other players were ahead of him in the team and he hasn’t been able to force his way into the line-up.

“He is keen for this loan move to happen and I think it is the best for everyone at this stage.”

The Egyptian’s Town contract runs until the summer of 2021, with Town holding the option of extending it by a further year.
