Knife raid leaves shop worker with slashing injuries
A BRAVE shop worker who tried to stop a robber suffered slash wounds as the would-be thief attacked her.
The woman, who is in her 20s, was threatened by a man who entered the Fartown newsagent armed with a knife.
She was slashed across the hand when she tried to stop him.
West Yorkshire Police have described the incident at the Spaines Road store as “very frightening” for the injured woman.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment for a minor injury to her hand.
The suspect made off empty handed. Detectives have released a CCT V image of a man they would like to trace in connection with the attempted robbery.
The incident happened at around 12.20pm on Friday December 28.
A Force spokesman said: “The suspect demanded the victim, a woman in her 20s, hand over money from the till.
“The suspect then assaulted the victim when she tried to stop him, inflicting slash wounds to her hand.”
The suspect is described as a white male, in his 20s, and was wearing grey joggers, a black puffer jacket, white trainers and a deer stalker-style hat.
Detective Inspector Damian Simpson, of Kirklees CID, said: “This was obviously a very frightening incident for the woman involved and thankfully she wasn’t more seriously injured.
“I would appeal for anyone who recognizes the man pictured in the CCT V image to get in contact with officers are he may have information valuable to the investigation.
“I would also appeal for anyone who saw a man matching the description in the area at the time of the incident or saw anyone acting suspiciously to contact police.”
