Putting our best foot forward for charity

About £3,000 was raised all together by the wide range of charities involved.

Organiser, Bob Armitage, said: “About 50 people took part and it’s gone very well.

“It’s past its heydays but we hope to keep it going and bring it back Giovanna Tatterton and John Howard, walking for Holly Bank, are joined by Lions Club members on the group’s 28th Charity Challenge in Beaumont Park next year.”

The Lions clubs of Huddersfie­ld, Holmfirth and Meltham were all involved in arranging the challenges.

The 12-mile accompanie­d walk was led by Susan Doran from the Kirklees Countrysid­e Volunteers, while the three-mile walk in the park was suitable for young and old, with youngsters kept entertaine­d by a cartoon character treasure hunt as part of the walk.

The Friends of Beaumont Park acted as event support, checking everyone in from inside the café.

The event on Sunday was the 28th Lions Charity Challenge, which over the years has raised £750,000 for a massive range of charities and good causes.

This year, the following charities used the occasion to raise money: Macmillan, Holly Bank, Riding for the Disabled, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Talk Thru, British Heart Foundation, Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust, Kirkwood Hospice, Breast Cancer UK, Diabetes UK, Ectopic Pregnancy Trust, West Yorkshire Dog Rescue, the Stroke Associatio­n and Holly Bank Little Pips.
